DISCOMFORTS

«  “Minor matters are important to the bedridden.” (Jane Zorza)

In our enthusiasm to control cancer pain, nausea, vomiting, dyspnea, dysphagia, anorexia and other major symptoms, it is sometimes easy to overlook details which can be so important, and can greatly reduce discomfort, improve morale, and raise the pain threshold.

For example:

  • Syringing ear wax

  • Treating ingrowing toe nails

  • Relining loose dentures

  • Arranging routine dental work

  • Rehydrating dry skin

  • Changing eyeglass prescription, adjusting fit

Poor hearing is often due to ear wax. Ear drops (such as warm olive oil) may only need 30 minutes to soften wax sufficiently to allow syringing.
